Our modern dental laser technology facilitates speedier and more comfortable healing used most often in gum treatments.

How do lasers apply to dental care & gum healing?

Our dental laser enables our dental care practice to offer patients the most sophisticated, precise and minimally invasive technology available in dentistry. Its high affinity for soft tissue makes it an invaluable tool for aesthetic re-contouring of the gums, accessibility, isolation and the healing of soft tissue and other non surgical periodontal applications. It differs from traditional methods in that it is more efficient and often faster. There is less post-operative discomfort for the patient and the bacteria levels in affected areas are reduced.

There is virtually no damage to healthy tissue.

Laser correction of a gummy smile

Many adults who feel they have a “gummy” smile are not aware that anything can be done about it. They are not happy with excessive gum showing, causing the teeth to look short. The solution is actually very quick and simple. The soft-tissue laser can easily vaporize tiny pieces of gum tissue where it is not wanted revealing more of the tooth’s surface restoring the proper balance between the size and shape of teeth and gums.

Laser treatment for beginning gum disease (Gingivitis)

Gingivitis, the first stage of gum disease, is characterized by red, puffy, inflamed and bleeding gums. It is caused by the bacterial plaque that forms on our teeth. Removing this is the goal of daily brushing and flossing. In some cases the germs can build up and get into the spaces between the teeth and the gums – called the pockets. These bacteria cause gingivitis.

Use of the laser can eliminate a very large percentage of the bacteria in the pockets. It also stimulates re- growth of healthy cells, followed this with good oral hygiene, and your gingivitis can be controlled.

Laser-Assisted Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal disease is caused by the same bacterial plaque as gingivitis and is usually characterized by a similar appearance of the gums. The difference is that the long-standing infection of the gums makes the space between teeth and gums (the pockets) deeper.

What cannot be seen is that the tooth’s support (each tooth’s root connected to the jawbone) is dissolving away.

Laser-Assisted Periodontal therapy involves all aspects of our traditional and successful gum treatment program. Additional benefits include:

  • Killing 99% of the bacteria in the pocket
  • Removing all infected tissue
  • Stimulating re-growth of the tooth’s attachment and bone support

Laser use in cosmetic dentistry

The soft tissue laser is an ideal tool to complement the cosmetic procedures that Dr. Mah and his associate’s performs. The attractiveness of a smile is dependent on the frame made by the lips and gums. Ideal shapes of the gums are essential for an aesthetic result. The laser is ideally suited to perform these procedures:

  • Quickly
  • Without pain
  • Without bleeding
  • With enhanced healing
